looking forward to ghosts and kisses at midnight

i am a sucker for black and white. and i don't care if something appears derivitave of jarmusch and before sunrise, as i can think of far worse things to emmulate. so with this in mind i will be checking out the film in search of a midnight kiss this weekend. what can i say, when they put out a preview like this i am almost sure to watch.

i will also try to check out the new ricky gervais film as i think that guy is pure gold and hearing his laugh alone is worth the price of admission. plus i saw him on regis and he described the film as "capraesque" and i am in the mood for something good natured, and tactful at the tail end of this cynical summer.

and the lack of tact will probably be what keeps me from watching lakeview terrace despite the fact that it is directed by one of my more beloved misanthropic and local favorite director neil labute. well, a lack of niceties, and an utter desire to avoid another overblown show from samuel l., of course.

whatever you watch, just go watch. it's important.

Neil LaBute seems to be going on a bad downward slope. "In the Company of Men" was perfect in a way that "Reservoir Dogs" was perfect and will never be equaled to. "Your Friends & Neighbors" was just okay, "Nurse Betty" was pretty poor. "Possession" was interesting, but not his best, and "Wicker Man" was HORRIBLE. As much as I love Neil LaBute, I think this looks like his worst film ever. Thank God he didn't write it - like "Wicker Man" the Remake - but still, it looks like a horrible film. IF I EVER watch that piece of shit - it will only be because of Neil LaBute. Samuel L. can't even make that film attractive...

Shane- There are 2 points on Labute that I agree with: Your Friends and Neighbors was O.K. and Possession was interesting, but not his best. Everything else I disagree with. Although, your opinion is way closer to public opinion. I found In The Company of Men an annoying eyesore. Nurse Betty is my favorite LaBute film. Wicker Man took the original's religious parable and turned it into a feminist parable. It was fun and totally ridiculous. How can you not love Nicolas Cage (who needs to stopped being cast in anything) in a bear suit punching Lelee Sobieski in the face. I will see Lakeview Terrace. I am tired of Samuel L. Jackson's angry black man routine and I hope it spends more time being a thriller than being self-important like Crash.

Troy- I don't get the appeal of Ricky Gervais. I don't find him funny in the least.

am i the only person who remembers the shape of things...which is the best neil labute movie. in the company of men does look like shit, but then again it goes with the scenery of lovely ft. wayne indiana(craphole). and it is kinda one joke, but that;s still a hell of a joke. i liked possession alot.

and even though i'm intrigued by the title bangcock dangerous, i gave up nic cage cold turkey long before wicker man and feel much better for it. maybe i should do the same for samuel l.

ricky gervais laughs like a hyena, mostly at his own (bad) jokes, and i find that hillarious...both as someone who makes bad jokes and as someone who laughs at them.

I also liked Shape of Things and realized it had been left out of the discussion. I was just responding to what Shane said.

Unless there is a director I like involved, I generally stay away from Nicolas Cage.

The only thing I can add to this is that Nurse Betty is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

looks like that's 2 votes for Nurse Betty.

"whatever you watch, just go watch. it's important." I like the tag here Troy. I brings life to an old argument that art is what you want it to be. Forget what art is and just like art. If you like the Fem-Nazi's like troy watch shape of things and if your a Transformer go watch hollywood. The point is just go and enjoy what you want and talk about the things that get you off.

Zach- I agree with the sentiment and I also stand behind watching both The Shape of Things (Neil LaBute) and Transformers (Michael Bay) because they are equally rewarding.

Thanks Ryan, if there is one thing about all your options there honest. I may not always like them, but I know you get it!
