looking forward to puttting a boot in someone's ass

it's thursday...and if you haven't already hitched a ride on the express, i sincerely urge you to do so.

if you want to clown and really pull a doober-ific double feature and go watch pineapple express with the new werner herzog film encounters at the end of the world and watch how he handles the phenomena of men alone in the vastness of nature. it'll probably be like the p.x. only without jokes and instead of stoners they have scientists. me, i'm gonna opt out and hope i have sattelite by the time this plays 100 times on the discovery channel. make me another strozek and i will get in line.

no, incredibly the only film i will probably venture out for this weekend will be one that will set in place a family tradition as it will be the second time that my mom and i have gone out to see a toby keith film in the theatres. she's a fan. and i am amused. and honestly, how could i not be rooting for a movie called beer for my horses?(we are beer cannes after all)and since i am not surrounded by the sort of deserving criminal element necessary and since i am an adult and we don't do that sort of thing, for now i will have to live vicariously live through my guy toby keith and wave the red, white, and blue in that way as i make my mom happy and find something that we can both enjoy. bonding, wfms style

because even here at the beer cannes, we occasionaly want to put a little boot to ass too.

So, I'm confused - did you see "Pineapple Express"??? It kind of sounded like you did, then you started talking all weird... I hope you liked it, if you saw it...

I am interested in "Encounters at the End of the World", hopefully I can find some time to catch it. I hope Keystone still has "The Wackness" this weekend too...

We do still have The Wackness, but it's down to a half screen.

Stroszek is pretty much where my Herzog appreciation starts and ends.

yes i have seen the express...i was making reference to the part where rogan and franco go out into "nowhere" much like the protagonists of most herzog films.
hence the double feature.

Thanks Ryan, hopefully I can catch it sometime this week.

Gotcha Troy, now I understand. You started using big words with no punctuation, I got lost...

You've made me want to start a new blog called Beerdance. But, all I'm going to do is review mainstream movies in the most asinine ways possible. I would do my best to over-analyze every aspect of every film, and look for the "deeper meanings" - which don't really exist! I doubt I'll ever do it, but it would be a fun companion to your blog...

shane...what do you see when you look at films? what do you think about? honestly...deeper meaning exists in life, therefore it must exist in cinema, the artform that allows for the most realistic representation of life. otherwise why even watch? why not just jerk off to everybody loves raymond?

you would do well to simply analyze anything, because thinking is good.

First, I wanted to let you know that my last comment was just a joke. Nothing more. I wasn't try to be an ass - but re-reading it, I don't think my playful tone came across.

All I want from film in entertainment. I don't need or want anything else. Watching sports, going to a theatre production, watching fireworks, watching movies - they are just entertainment to me.

I'm not going to break down the metaphorical meaning behind Danny Granger dribbling 11 times and shooting, but then dribbling 7 times with a cross over before a lay-up. I watch basketball to be entertained.

Same with film. That's why its easy for me to know if I'm going to like something, or not. I simply know my own tastes.

Ten years ago, I consider myself to have been a movie whore. I would watch anything and everything - and abused my General Cinema employee privileges to do so. But, as time has gone on, I've personally decided that my time is too valuable to me to spend watching countless movies, many of which are BAD, and many of which do not entertain me.

I've decided that spending time with my puppy, or going out to social settings with my friends is more important to me than watching hundreds of films a year. That's why I often preview films late at night at work, because if I don't watch it then - most likely I never will. At least, not until it comes to Netflix. And Netflix has been an awesome saving grace for me. I've been able to get films that I was curious about, and fifteen minutes in - if I didn't like, I turned it off and saved my time. As opposed to sitting in a theatre, where I don't walk out. Trivia Fact: The only film I've ever walked out of was "The Out-of-Towners" Remake with Steve Martin. HORRIBLE.

Let me go back to my sports metaphor: I know what sports like I like, and I don't generally watch swimming, or diving, or track and field events. However, during the Olympics I find myself watching anything and everything given to me - because of the atmosphere of the events.

The same can be said about Film Festivals such as Heartland or IIFF. When they happen, I often have the ability to change my mindset, because I am aware of what I am getting into.

When it all boils down, all I want is to be entertained. Sometimes "art" films entertain me. Sometimes Foreign Language Films entertain me. Certain directors tend to entertain me. And since all I care about is entertainment, I can enjoy films like "National Treasure" or "The Dark Knight", because they succeed in giving me something fun and enjoyable.

Film is escapism to me. I don't want to watch a film about a bunch of people who are depressed and sit around bemoaning their lives and existence. That's not entertaining to me, that's depressing - no matter how beautifully the director shot the film, or how good the performances are. I watch films to forget about the problems in my life, and see something that removes me from life and just makes me laugh, or cry, or enjoy the journey.

I respect the fact that you look for the deeper meanings and subtle nuances of cinema. That's cool for you, but it doesn't define "good" film to me. There doesn't have to be some underlying background art moment in order for the flick to be good for me. I just want to be entertained.
